AOTA American Occupational Therapy Association "advances the quality, availability, use, and support of occupational therapy through standard-setting, advocacy, education, and research on behalf of its members and the public."

Classroom Accommodations for children with sensory integration dysfunction - from Cause Online.

CAOT - Canadian Associaton of Occupational Therapists. See the Consumer Information page for more information about Occupational Therapists and therapy.

Handwriting without Tears - often children with low muscle tone of the upper trunk, as well as those with poor fine motor skills need help learning how to hold a pencil and learning to print and write. This program was developed by Jan Z. Olsen, OTR, an occupational therapist and handwriting specialist

OTWorks - Canada's Occupational Therapy Resource site. Find out about funding for OT, see the "Ask an OT" feature.

Sensory Diet Products - difficulties with processing sensory information can interfere with a child’s acquisition of concept and motor learning. "An individualized sensory diet regularly addresses the child’s sensory processing needs throughout the day." (Wilbarger, 1995). The sensory diet allows the child opportunities for positive sensory input at frequent intervals, which allows him or her to participate more fully in the activities of his or her daily schedule.

Patricia Wilbarger's website - the "Sensory Defensiveness Webpage".

Make your own Beanbag Pot Pourri.

Sensory Bags- a great tool for your "sensory child". You can buy one of these pre-packaged sensory bags, or make your own; just make a cloth bag with drawstring, and add a koosh ball, silly putty, foam ball, etc.

Weighted Vests - some children crave deep pressure. They may be very "huggy" or "pushy" with others, or they may like to have pillows piled on top of them or squeezing between the couch and the wall. One way to help these children satisfy their cravings for deep pressure is to have them wear a weighted vest. Also see Weighted Blankets.
