| My 3 yr old was evaluated and found to need speech therapy. The school district wants her to begin Head Start (all day school) next year. I'm not ready to send her to school because she has no way of telling us if something bad happens to her. She can't communicate well enough. Does anyone know if we have the right to request that the district provide private one-on-one therapy? |

You do have the right to request anything you want, however, the district's responsibility is to provide speech therapy for your child. If those services are available at the school site (Headstart), That's where the services will occur.
In my experience, the only time a school district has been compelled to pay for private services is if those services (determined appropriate on the Individual Education Plan) are not provided at the school (or within the district).
You might want to see if they will take your child for a short time during the day (just during speech). I know my school district does this. In these cases, transportation is provided by the parents. |
